APD Well Engineering Services

Well Engineering and Preparation involves the specification and selection criteria of equipment for an MPD project based on the specific application and well objectives.

MPD equipment may include:
  • Rotating control device
  • Automated DAPC system consisting of:
Choke manifold
Backpressure pump
Integrated Pressure Manager
Real-time hydraulics model
Coriolis flow meter
Field computers, printers, and monitors
Automated pressure relief valve
  • Interconnecting piping – fixed or flexible
  • Maintenance cabin with tooling and spare parts
  • Control cabin rated for Z1 Div2, if required
  • Power generator
  • Separators

Well Engineering and Prep involves the development and provision of documentation pertaining to engineering specific tasks related to the MPD project. The breadth of these tasks will depend on the scope of work and may involve:
  • Analyzing specified hydraulics scenarios
  • Running hydraulic models
  • Performing pore pressure / fracture gradient analyses
  • Calculating pressure drops through interconnecting piping & equipment

Well Engineering and Prep may also involve the development of:
  • Rig layout schematics
  • Drawings and dimensions of BOP and areas below the rig floor
  • Rig drawings showing location of MPD related rig equipment and piping tie-in points, rig zone ratings of area selected for MPD equipment
  • Documentation related to MPD loads and load ratings of rig areas where MPD equipment will be located
  • Flow schematics
  • Documentation and drawings for the RCH / diverter stack-up, space-out, & tieback
  • Specification of riser requirements above the RCD or wellhead pressure control device
  • Specifications for rig power supply requirements for the MPD system

In addition, it may also involve:
  • Determining the need for kick detection relative to the project HAZID / HAZOP, well control, and well objectives
  • Developing kick response scenarios related to the MPD system capabilities
  • Determining suitable kick detection systems
  • Identifying and selecting additional kick detection services
