APD Pressure Drilling Services

Operational service delivery begins with the mobilization of equipment and personnel per the project schedule.

On the rig the At Balance crew ensures the appropriate rig up and testing of their equipment.

Prior to commencement of MPD operations, At Balance personnel provide orientation and safety meetings with each crew to ensure the rig personnel are ready.

Upon commencement of pressure drilling operations the APD crew follows the appropriate operating procedures developed for normal and contingency operations.

Specifically, the MPD Supervisor ensures that each person on the MPD crew knows their roles and follows the processes and procedures applicable to their role during each phase of the MPD job.

In addition, the crew regularly services and maintains their equipment to ensure no loss of pressure control due to equipment failure or malfunction.

Kick Detection Service (KDS)

Flow-based KDS is available and requires a flow meter downstream from the DAPC Choke Manifold to measure flow out.

For Flow-based KDS the Integrated Pressure Manager is configured to compare flow-out data measured by the flow meter and flow-in data calculated from rig pump rate.

The IPM monitors, displays, and compares flow trends, and issues kick alarms when flow out exceeds flow in, and loss alarms when flow in exceeds flow out.

Optionally, an additional flow meter may be installed downstream from the rig pumps to measure flow-in.

Remote Pressure Control Service

Remote operations requires special operating software and data communication links to enable real-time pressure control from a Customer designated data center or office.

It requires a reliable, high speed data communications link between the rig and data center and an appropriate number of MPD Supervisors for 24 hour service coverage in the data center.

It also requires technical personnel on the rig or at the well site for operation support and maintenance.

Remote Pressure Control service requires defining and preparing appropriate operating procedures and safety guidelines for normal and contingency remote operations and data communication on the rig and between the rig and data center.

Remote Pressure Control services requires a pre-field integration test of all MPD equipment to determine its readiness for remote operations and separate integration tests on the rig to determine its readiness for the commencement of MPD operations.
