Automated Pressure Drilling Applications

Depleted Fields / Narrow Margins

...South Texas
...Gulf of Mexico
...North Sea

In this application the objective typically involves drilling producing targets too risky or costly to drill conventionally. It involves drilling the undrillable.

OPerators seek to maintain the wellbore stability while avoiding losses to reduce their reduce their nonproductive time and drilling cost.

At Balance provides the pressure control technology to walk the line between upper and lower pressure limits too close together for the unavoidably high ECD of conventional drilling.

Our people and technology work to hold the BHP constant and minimize the pressure fluctuations that can cause pressure imbalances.

Expanded Access to Reserves

...Gulf of Mexico
...North Sea

At Balance Smith has enabled its customers to drill reserves that were stranded between horizontal producing wells and producing targets simply unreachable with convention drilling methods.

With our Automated Pressure Drilling services our customers have been able to expand access to their known reserves by drilling at or below balance with static mud weight at or below pore pressure.

This reduces the equivalent circulating density and improves wellbore stability, avoids differential sticking, and eiminates lost circulation.

Drilling Optimization

...South China Sea

There are many ways to optimize drilling operations. One way in which automated pressure control helps to do this is by enabling drilling operators to balance the mud weight at or well below pore pressure.

By lowering the mud weight and even the level of LCM solids operators have reduced annular loading, ECD, and drilling time and improved hole cleaning.

Improved hole cleaning helps reduce the nonproductive off-bottom time spent circulating and back reaming.
