2004 saw the first use of automated BHP pressure control to manage pressure in a geothermal well drilled into a fractured granite reservoir.
The DAPC system enabled the operator to reduce the mud weight below what was previously used and minimize damage to the fractured reservoir. Drilling with the constant BHP provided by the DAPC system helped the operator prove the commercial value of an important new energy resource. |

This year saw the first use of an automated system for constant bottomhole pressure control in The Netherlands to drill a fractured chalk oil reservoir. Using the DAPC system helped the operator eliminate the lost circulation experienced in conventionally drilled offsets and protect the fractured reservoir. |
